Uncle Bob

Head Artist/Owner

Bob Hall was born and raised in New Albany Indiana. When he was six years old he recognized that art in almost all mediums was a passion of his, and it didn’t take him long to know that following his art, is where he wanted his life to lead him.

When Robert was 21 years old, he began to feel like he could start pursuing a career in art, and he started by etching memorials and headstones for monument companies. Doing this he traveled the country etching for almost a decade. One of his most famous etchings is in Fort Campbell Ky, a 10,000 pound granite memorial to the Fort Campbell victims of the December 1985 plane crash in Gander Newfoundland.

Once his daughter was born he didn't want to be on the road most of her life and miss her growing, so he stopped etching, and that's when his life as a tattoo artist began. With his lifetime of experience in art, he opened Uncle Bob’s Tattoos in 1996, with a hope of staying close to home and family, while still making a living with his art.

Now, not only can you see his oil paintings, but his living works of art, tattoos, walking around all over indiana, and the united states.

Bob specializes in Realism tattoos: Portraits, Wildlife, Nature, Animal/Pet Portraits and more. After 46 years of tattooing, He can do any tattoo you want, but this style is his preference!

RJ

Head Tattoo Artist and Body Piercer

I was Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga.

I’ve had a fascination with tattoos for as long as I can remember. I remember deciding at the age of five that I really wanted a tattoo, thinking it would make me look tough or cool (My grandma used to whip my butt because I was always writing and drawing on myself). When I was fifteen, I watched my dad get a tattoo from a guy he knew, out of a motel room. I was glued, I watched everything he did. Eventually, I got my first tattoo when I was eighteen. I remember the first line. When I felt that needle hit my skin. My first thought was “What the hell did I get myself into?” But I sure as hell wasn’t going to back out. Then after a few minutes I didn’t even notice it anymore, I was hooked.

Call it fate, or just being in the right place at the right time, but when the opportunity to get into the industry presented itself in late 1996 I didn’t hesitate for a minute. I just dove right in. Unfortunately, a couple months into my career as a tattoo artist, the shop I was working in shut down. I had just begun to get my own equipment, most of what I was using was borrowed. I didn’t have enough of my own equipment, or enough experience that any other shop would hire me.

I met Bob Hall of Uncle Bob’s Tattoos in mid 1998 when I was working a motorcycle event for a friend of mine. The following year I moved to Salem, Indiana. I would stop by Uncle Bob’s a couple times a week just to say hello and shoot the shit for a minute. I wanted to be back in a studio so bad it was ridiculous. I never bothered him about a job though, because I knew I didn’t have the equipment to do so.

After about three months of stopping in to say hi, Uncle Bob offered me a job working for him. I wanted it so bad I couldn’t stand it, but at the same time, I knew I didn’t have any equipment to be able to do the job. It broke my heart to be given another opportunity to tattoo, and to know I couldn’t because I didn’t have the tools. So, when I told him as much, he told me not to worry about having enough equipment, he had enough to get me working till I could buy my own. Once again, I jumped at the opportunity. I didn’t think twice. I quit my factory job, didn’t even bother discussing it with my wife. I didn’t care. This is what I wanted, and I wasn’t going to let this chance pass me by.

I began working at Uncle Bob’s tattoos in late August of 2000. 24 years after doing my first tattoo, here I am. One tattoo at a time, one day at a time.

After decades in the business, RJ can do just about any tattoo you want! He loves the challenge of cover ups!

Janelle

Tattoo Artist

I graduated from high school early and joined the Marine Corps shortly after. After completing my service, I began exploring various artistic mediums that caught my interest. I vividly remember sitting at my desk, using a sharpie to outline a drawing, and realizing that I truly enjoyed the outlining process—it became my favorite part. For two years, I focused on my art, and one day, I came across an advertisement for tattoo school. It was an option I had never considered before.

Curiosity piqued, I decided to visit the Florida Tattoo Academy in Tarpon Springs, and as soon as I stepped foot inside, I felt an instant sense of belonging. After leaving the Marine Corps, it had been challenging to find a place where I felt I belonged and had a sense of purpose. Tattooing gave that back to me. I enrolled in the school and completed the program in 11 weeks, blessed with incredible instructors who guided and taught me. Being surrounded by passionate and talented tattoo artists ignited a fire within me. I fell in love with the art of tattooing instantly and am committed to continually growing in this field.

When I'm tattooing, the world could be crumbling around me, yet all my anxieties and depression fade away the moment the needle touches the skin. I feel a profound sense of being exactly where I'm meant to be.

I enjoy doing black and grey work! typically nature, little animals and bugs, mushrooms, trippy tattoos, anime, sea creatures, anything organic and natural, fine line etc.
